money are everywhere look at the very design of suburbia

The White House has decided that America needs more diversityand the suburbs are ground zero. The lower-income population needs better opportunities to succeed, and the plan is to use HUD subsidies to build more modest housing in “wealthier neighborhoods”. Of course, that actually means middle-class areas, as the wealthy, donor class will never tolerate such an assault on their neighborhoods.

The result of this attempt at utopia will be a benefit for those moving to the suburbs, but, at the expense of those already there. Yes, the new residents will have access to better schools, therefore better opportunities. The middle class residents will be paying a higher percentage because their higher property taxes pay for more of the school resources. Also, HUD housing has a tendency to lower the values of surrounding areas, thus hurting the middle class resident. After all, who hasn’t seen the phenomenon of having a higher tax value than resale value on a house?

The real reason for the concept isn’t to give a helping hand to the disadvantaged, it’s to help the Democrat Party. Metropolitan areas are more Democrat than the suburbs and rural areas. The further away from a city, the more Republican it gets. This is an effort to water down the Republican vote at the precinct level. Let’s face reality; no Democrat plan to help the poor has ever helped the poor, but it has been a great benefit for the Democrat Party.

This utopian scheme has been tried before, by a different means. More than a decade ago, Democrat legislators tried to regulate the financial lenders to make it easier to borrow money for a home, ultimately leading to no money down loans. Add to that the tendency to purchase more home than a lended could afford and the result is the real estate and the financial collapse of 2008. That collapse caused the loss of many in the middle class. This idea will further decimate it.

    Dark into light

There is a trend raising its ugly head in Washington, DC and, I fear it will gobble up more of our liberties as time passes. That growing trend is the increasing secrecy centering on bills, Executive Orders, and, now, treaty negotiations. Washington has always had secrets. Every nation does. Now, however, the secrecy is becoming blatant.

The latest example is the TPP, the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement. It’s details are hidden from public view in the basement of the Capitol.  If a Senator wants to read the bill, that’s where he has to go to see it. he can’t make copies or remove it, and he can’t talk about it to anyone.

Rumors about the deal run rampant; they run from complete surrender of sovereignty to it’s a great deal that will put more people to work. The last one comes courtesy of The Chamber of (Progressive) Commerce, so I have my doubts about that one. Some of the provisions, reportedly, are not to be made public for four years. During Obamacare, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said we had to pass the bill before we find out what’s in it, which was obviously a lie. Evidently, this is far more sensitive. It’s such a mystery that Wikileaks has offered a reward for details, and apparently, got some of them. According to them, the deal has 29 chapters, but only five have anything to do with trade. One chapter concerns globalism, placing more weight on global banking (hopefully not global currency) and multi-national corporations.

Wikileaks is not where the public is supposed to turn to find out what our government is doing. So far, only one Senator is screaming for the agreement draft to be made public. If it’s as good as the administration claims, why keep it secret? What could be in it that harms the country that they want to keep covert?

I’ve already mentioned Obamacare; we know how well that worked for many Americans. It didn’t! Add to that the questions of what our State Department was doing out of Benghazi  several years ago, or the suspicious nature of the events surrounding the Extortion 17 mission, or the still secret details of the FCC Net Neutrality internet takeover, or the Iran nuclear talks and you just have to stop and wonder,”What exactly is our government trying to do?” To my mind, it’s past time for this administration to come clean with the American people!

     MRAP

It seemed an appropriate use of the military equipment coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan. Giving it to the police forces removed it from the inventory of the military to make room for new equipment and would help the police forces do a better job. The problem on the military side was the fact that instead of equipment being replaced, to often, units would be shuffled to form smaller units not needing new equipment and personnel being pink slipped. On the police side, we began to see MRAPs and armored personnel carriers roaming the streets with the emblems of the local police forces emblazoned on the sides. Well, a few days ago, the White House decided to crack-down on sending military equipment to the police.

When Barack H Obama ran for the office of President in 2008, he indicated a desire for a police force equipped much like the military to safeguard us at home. Local forces soon began receiving used equipment, with, I’m sure, suggestions on how to use it. Of course, by then, the alphabet soup of government agencies were already so equipped. Then Ferguson happened. The main talking point of the White House centered on the heavy-handedness of the Ferguson Police Force, not to mention the false narrative of a police officer shooting a man who was trying to surrender. Add the racial undertones of the officer being white and the suspect being black and you have a situation demanding Department of Justice scrutiny.

Between then and now, the DOJ has selected a dozen or so cities, including Ferguson, where the police forces are under federal control. In many of the cities, personnel was cut to the point that they could no longer do their jobs. Now, Baltimore will be added to the list. This gives rise to the national police force desired by Obama and cried for by Al “Tax Dodger” Sharpton. Last year, I was at a protest, I saw not only horse-mounted police, but armored personnel carriers in the streets. Evidently, the police forces weren’t going to agree with some of the requirements of a national police force, so, now, Obama wants to strip them of the equipment they’ve gotten,  along with the some of the responsibilities of crowd control.

If you want to see a national police force at work, just look back to 2012 in Boston. After the bombings at the Boston Marathon, the federal authorities took over, bringing military equipment to bear. They told residents to stay inside and began conducting door to house to house searches. They walked up onto the porches, knocked on the door, then entered the home to search. During that period of time, the 4th Amendment was ignored. This would be the future under a national police force. I wonder if that will be a procedure practiced during Jade Helm?

President Theodore Roosevelt described his foreign policy with the statement, “Speak softly and carry a big stick.” He increased the United States’ naval power to enforce that policy. Later, with the advent of the aircraft carrier and, specifically, the Nimitz-class carrier, we’ve become THE naval power. To wake up in the morning to find a state of the art carrier offshore gives our enemies some cause for thought. After a disaster, a carrier can provide electricity, fresh water and airlift capabilities for aid and relief. For people with evil intentions, it means deterrence. For many US Presidents, it has been a strong show of force, a projection of power.

Currently, this administration has ordered  nine US Navy vessels, centered around the Nimitz-class carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), to trail an 8-ship convoy of the Iranian Navy, five warships and three freighters, headed toward Yemen. The Iranian convoy is thought to be en route to Yemen to reinforce the Houthi rebels with weapons and supplies. It’s not clear what orders the US Navy carrier group has. They have the authority to board ships for inspection to combat piracy in the area, although they’ve never boarded Iranian ships before.

The State Department spokesperson said yesterday that the TR battle groups’ mission is not to intercept Iranian weapons. Then, why are they there? Is the thought that the mere presence of the battle group would be enough to deter the Iranians? Where will the administration draw its red line?

Barack Obama’s history with drawing red lines hasn’t exactly been the best. In Syria, he drew red lines time after time after time They were crossed each time, with no consequence. I’m sure Iran was watching. With this and the negotiations on Iran’s nuclear capabilities, where we gave in at every turn, fresh in their minds, would Iran have any qualms about crossing a red line. And remember, just a month ago, the Iranian Navy held an exercise in which it launched attacks on a “carrier”. Of course, it looked more like the USS Langley, a cruiser hull with a flight deck on top that was our first aircraft carrier. It would be a much different thing to attack the Teddy Roosevelt.

When two opposing forces interact in such close proximity at cross purposes, people get hurt. This incident has the potential to get a lot of people killed, possibly even lighting the match that sets the entire region ablaze. More so that it already is.

There was a story over the weekend, where two children were scooped up by Child Protective Services in Silver Springs, Maryland because they were observed at a playground, playing without parental supervision. The parents had dropped them off at the playground and told them to be home by 6 PM. They got worried when the kids didn’t show up on time and went looking for them at the park. While looking, they received the call from CPS telling them that they had the children, ages 10 and 6. The parents finally had their children back around 10:30, after signing a document stating they would not allow the kids out unsupervised until after the CPS finished its investigation.

I was a kid of the 50’s. I know; that was a different time. But, as a kid, on weekends, I was out of the house as soon as I finished breakfast. I knew I had to be back by a certain time, or I’d miss supper. For the hours in between, I was running around or riding my bike or doing something with my friends. We didn’t have phones to stay in contact with parents. If they needed me, Dad (Mom didn’t drive) would get in the car and drive around until he found me or someone I knew. The thing is, we spent most of the summer unsupervised. Well, almost; If we did anything we weren’t supposed to be doing, Mom would get a phone call from someone in the neighborhood telling of their displeasure in us.

But, now, the government is dictating the advisability of such behavior. The doctrine is that government knows better how to care for our children than parents. Personally, I think it started with a book called, “It Takes A Village” that illustrated how the “village” was responsible for the upbringing of children, and gradually, parents relinquished control to that village.

Now, if you want to manage the healthcare of your child, but the government doesn’t like your decision, they take the child and treat them the way they want. You could be forced to watch as the government almost kills your child rather than admit they were wrong, as in the Pelletier case in Massachusetts. The government mandates vaccines, despite religious objections. Even the education system works against parents and in favor of government control. Common Core’s first goal, outside of the data-mining, is to remove parents from the teaching environment, showing the child how necessary government is. That is one reason homeschooling is frowned on.

Government is too involved in our lives to allow it to be further involved. To raise a child, it doesn’t require a village; it takes a family, with parents involved in their children’s lives. Government shouldn’t be involved at all, in the raising of our children! Oh, yeah. The big-government loving author of the afore-mentioned book is Hillary Clinton, who just announced that she was running for President. Say a prayer for the children!

On a campaign visit to Iowa in August, 2007, Senator Barack Obama pledged that, if elected as President, his administration would be the most transparent and accountable in history. We all know how transparent this administration has been: not at all! In fact, I’ve seen concrete clearer that this administration. How accountable has it been?

This weekend, I saw that a Colorado Veterans Hospital being built was a billion dollars over budget and the project was now going to cost $1.73 Billion. Outrageous! There are several others also over budget, though. Even worse, right? The worst part is the VA is awarding the construction execs over those projects huge bonuses! For what? I have a construction business and I have never been granted a bonus for being over budget or late on a project. In fact, it usually works the other way. I start losing money!

So, where’s the accountability at the VA department concerning the building of facilities? Who’s holding project managers and companies collective feet to the fire to get work done on time and on budget? The answer is nowhere! Can’t find it! Of course, this isn’t the only accountability problem at the VA. Remember the Phoenix VA hospital at the center of the waiting list scandal, which cost the lives of 40 veterans. The director was on PAID administrative leave for over 220 days before she was fired from her position. Waiting lists are still being used, although new legislation last year was supposed to end it. But, that legislation also provided funds for more facilities that, I’m sure will do nothing more than line the pockets of union officials.

Accountability has been non-existent throughout this administration. We have an  Attorney General held in contempt of Congress for withholding files surrounding the missing weapons during the Fast and Furious operation. The operation cost the life of a Border Agent, Brian Terry, along with more that a few Mexican citizens. No one was held accountable. The IRS was used as a weapon against Conservatives and the official at the center of that investigation, Lois Lerner, was placed on PAID administrative leave until she decided to retire, without accountability. There’s no one been held accountable for an ambassador and three security people being killed in Benghazi. Come to think of it, where are the emails concerning this scandal from the Secretary of State’s private server? No accountability surrounding the targeting of a non-mission capable helicopter shot down over Afghanistan killing 26 SEALs. The lack of any accountability in this administration goes on and on.

It has gotten to the point that we, as citizens, are far more accountable to the government than the other way around. When the question comes up over who is responsible for anything, some committee meets and fingers are pointed back and forth. No one gets held accountable. Patrick Henry said,”The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure, when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them.” Our Liberty is looking a lot less secure now.

The State Department is closing in on a deal with Iran concerning their nuclear facilities and their potential to make nuclear weapons. The deal needs to be completed by the 24th of this month and the administration is panicked to make an agreement. They need it! The conditions of the deal are vague, by some accounts, gives Iran around 80% of what they want. They have sanctions currently imposed upon them relaxed and they get to continue operating a huge number of centrifuges for the production of nuclear power. They also must not produce nuclear weapons during the life of the agreement, approximately ten years.

The fact that Iran has not kept promises in the past completely eludes this administration. They need an agreement to prove how great they are in foreign diplomacy. Of course, a quick look around the world shows their prowess. At best, Iran gets nukes in ten years; at worst, they break their promise and get the bomb within a couple of months. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke before Congress, saying an Iran with the bomb is completely unacceptable. I agree!

Details of the deal are being kept under wraps, some even secret from Congress. They have been increasingly vocal on the deal with Iran. The administration thinks they can get the agreement done without Congressional approval. After all, Congress has allowed them to circumvent the Constitution repeatedly, even after they won the majority in both houses! Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) has been an outspoken critic, but last week, was threatened by a Justice Department indictment on corruption charges. Last week, Harry Reid, Senate Majority, excuse me, I mean Minority Leader, says Congress can let the deal go through. Now, I’m not a Constitutional scholar, but the Constitution places the duty of ratifying treaties squarely in the hands of the Senate! If the deal John  Kerry is working on is so fantastic, why don’t they want the details made public? Why is the deal granting Iran 80% of the things they want in OUR best interests?

This arrangement with Iran is just one more case of hidden agendas with this administration. Just last week, the FCC, under direction of the White House, took control of the internet. The 332 page plan is still unreleased. What could they be hiding? Even Netflix, which was for “net neutrality” prior to the FCC  action, is now having second thoughts. Is this just another instance where we have to pass it before we find out what’s in it? Will all the emails sent and received during the negotiations with Iran get lost, much like Lois Lerner’s or Hillary’s emails during Benghazi? Will Marie Harf use her nuances to allay our fears even as Iran launches its nukes upon America? I guess it all rests on whether Congress (specifically the Senate) rolls over. Again!

At current, funding for the Department of Homeland Security is scheduled to end on Friday, just three days from now. The sticking point in funding DHS rests with the Executive Order basically granting amnesty to anywhere from  5 million to 10 million illegal immigrants. Conservatives want to defund those actions before funding the agency; liberals want all or nothing on funding, plus placing of blame on Republicans for a possible shutdown. Fear not, though; within 36 hours, the Republican leadership in Congress will forget who won the last elections and cave, leaving unchecked the autocratic dictates of this administration. This will further the disappearing act of checks and balances put forth by our Founders in Articles I, II and III of the US Constitution.

With this move, this administration maintains the ability to determine how they want to enforce laws. If they want to post border agents no closer than 50 miles of the border leaving the border wide open, that’s fine. If they want to take illegals and distribute them across all areas of the country without medical checks or effort to identify them, they can. Should they desire to award them with up to $35,000 in back tax refunds (whether they filed or not in the last three years), they’re good to go. Of course, they can provide Social Security cards and Obamacare to the illegals as well. The only thing that could stop this re-interpretation of the law is a pending court case with judges, I’m sure, that will bend over backwards to find a way to find in favor of the administration!

The White House is already moving forward. They have decided it is within their power to unilaterally raise taxes. Of course, there is precedent. The Department of Justice has been shaking down banks the last few years to the tune of billions of dollars, lest they find themselves in court for following ill-written laws. The EPA has levied fines against companies that dare offend them. The EPA has even commenced war against several states for allowing the production of coal. Don’t forget the fines imposed on the poor in the form of requiring them to buy approved wood stoves, because their old stoves used for heating produces too much CO2. Never mind the Constitution, which says Congress makes tax law, according to Article I, Section 8.

Just last week, the FCC in conjunction with this administration took control of the internet, on the pretext of high-speed access for all at a low price. They set in place a plan laid out in 332 pages, none of which have been made public even five days later! The Net Neutrality “laws” made a lot of promises, but will only give customers higher prices, slower speeds and censorship. They used a law from 1932 to classify the internet as a utility, much as the telecommunication industry was classified. Under this classification, innovation in telephones was limited. The only real change was the change from dial to tone, until deregulation. If the plan is so good, why is it still being kept secret? Anyone see a vote in Congress on this issue? I didn’t. The FCC Chairman even refused to appear before Congress, saying he was too busy implementing the plan to appear.

Where has our Congress gone? They have abdicated their duties and violated the oaths they took to protect and defend the Constitution against enemies, foreign and domestic. They have surrendered without a fight. They have given up their backbones and slithered away to hide under the rocks. They, along with a judiciary that has turned a blind eye or been corrupted, have abandoned their roles to produce an autocratic government, one who dictates law affecting everyone’s lives.

Congress needs to realize they work for We the People! They need to step up, find its intestinal fortitude and do the right thing. They need to return to the US Constitution before it’s too late. Hopefully, it’s not too late already!

Last Friday, the White House released its National Security Strategy of 2015. It was overshadowed by ISIS video of the burning death of the Jordanian Air Force pilot and the backlash from Barack Obama’s comments at the National Prayer Breakfast. It’s just as well. The bullet points look good enough, but it’s all hot air, except for a very few points.

It starts, “The strategy sets out the principles and priorities that describe how America will lead the world toward greater peace and a new prosperity.” The truth is, under this administration, America will continue to lead from behind, requiring other countries to step up.

For example, even as this Administration struggles to declare that ISIS isn’t a radical Islamic terrorist group, the Jordanian King stepped up to denounce the group and backed it up with renewed and  greatly bolstered airstrikes. They conducted 56 missions in three days, complete with mission videos. How long has it been since the media has shown video from our airstrikes?

As another example, this past weekend, Angela Merkel of Germany was meeting with Vladimir Putin of Russia. They were discussing Russian incursions into Ukraine. Monday, she was heading to Washington to brief Obama of the talks. If we were as strong as the administration implies, we wouldn’t need to be briefed; we’ would have been involved in the discussions. Come to that, if we had a strong leader, Russia might not even be acting the aggressor.

The strategy mentions our goal for a “world without nuclear weapons and insuring nuclear materials don’t fall into the hands of irresponsible states and violent non-state actors”. At the same time, this administration is conducting talks with Iran in regards to its nuclear ambitions. Reports state that our negotiations are giving Iran about 80% of what they want, leaving all of their centrifuges active. Apparently, no one in the administration deems Iran an irresponsible state.

From what I can see, the only truths in the strategy are the points concerning the war on climate change and the equality issues surrounding the LGBT community. Both of these are more social issues (if they are, in fact, issues) and don’t have a place in a National Security Strategy.

While the United States has the greatest military in the world and that military has some great generals, this adminstration continues to fritter away any advantage that force gives us. The name for this strategy could easily be “The Status Quo Continues”!

After the State of the Union address, I felt so much more secure in the fact that the United States was doing fine , that America was strong and that we “turn the page.” The economy has turned around. The unemployment rate has dropped (because the administration controls the numbers), business has created 11,000,000 jobs (while 93,000,000 people have left the workforce, leaving the lowest worker participation) and the oil production here has almost freed us from foreign dependence (not because of the government, but in spite of it). “The shadow of the crisis has passed, and the State of the Union is strong”.

The White House was bold enough to issue a fact-check of the speech, suspiciously unsourced. Evidently, it remains true that if someone from the administration says something it’s truth. That’s how the media has operated for the last couple of decades. I’ve noticed large lay-offs in the media, apparently all from the research departments, since they take the manufactured “facts” as gospel.  The majority of the people feel we are still in a recession and don’t feel confident that things will get appreciably better any time soon. Actual unemployment, the rate which includes those looking for work, marginally attached worker and those working part-time because they can’t find full-time work (U-6) is 11.2%. The media reports the heavily massaged and seasonally adjusted U-3 rate of 5.6%. Currently, 14% of Americans are on food stamps; the number of recipients has doubled under Barack Obama. Doesn’t seem like the page has turned on the economic story. The shadow of crisis is still there.

How about the events where national security and foreign policy reign? During the campaign for President in 2012, Obama took great pride in stating he ended the war in Iraq. His path to that end completely disregarded all of the generals involved in the conflict. He never tried to get a Status of Forces Agreement from the Iraqi government and, ultimately, pulled American troops out of the country. In April of 2014, a new force appeared on the field and ISIS ( or the JV depending on who you ask) began taking territory, causing the Iraqi Army to flee. This was exactly what the general said could happen. Today, ISIS holds territory in Syria, Iraq and threatens Turkey. Granted, we are now bombing them from the air and we are told our goal is to degrade and destroy them, but they have actually increased their territory. Seems that the shadow of crisis still exists there.

Iran is still working toward achieving nuclear power status. This administration has allowed deadline after deadline to pass during negotiations. We talk and they build. Now, as an additional incentive to negotiate, we’ve relieved some of the sanctions against Iran. That should force them back to the table. It’s almost like this administration wants Iran to have the bomb. In fact, during the SOTU speech, Obama criticized Congress for wanting to re-apply sanctions. Iran might get mad.

Also during the speech, though not mentioned in the speech, The United States moved to amphibious ships closer to Yemen to facilitate evacuation  of the embassy personnel because the US backed government is about to fall to rebels. Even so, this administration just a few days ago, released Islamic terrorists (how un-PC of me) from Gitmo back to Yemen. Guess Yemen wants more of them. The shadow of crisis remains.

Just a couple of weeks ago, Paris was hit by a terror attack by Islamic jihadists, resulting in the deaths of 17 people along with the three terrorists. The day after the two hostage situations came to a conclusion, there was a multi-million person march in Paris with over 40 leaders in attendance. The United States wasn’t represented, but four days later, in a diplomatic marvel, John Kerry brought James Taylor to Paris to sing “You’ve Got A Friend” to the French President Hollande. Now, that’s world leadership. Police throughout Europe continue to conduct raids to arrest Islamic terrorists. Alerts of possible terrorism are still in effect in Europe and here in the United States. It doesn’t look to me like the shadow of crisis has passed. It looks like the State of the Union would be strong if we had a leader!
